About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for people who have a desire to work in the horticulture industry who want to develop their theoretical skills and knowledge in a range of horticulture growing systems and practices.

It recognises horticulture knowledge and transferable skills valued by the horticulture community which will facilitate improved performance in the workplace, entry to a horticulture career and other related career progression, including to higher levels of study.

The qualification is designed to be flexible enough to reflect regional and sector variations in demand for transferable skills and knowledge.

It is also suitable for small block owners or for mature learners who wish to gain knowledge of horticultural science for application in a range of general horticulture sectors.

Graduates will be able to work under limited supervision with responsibility for work outcomes

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

a. General Academic Admission There is open entry to this programme although students must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success. b. Selection Criteria i. Candidates may be required to complete an interview and selection process. This may include the requirement to complete a Study Skills Assessment to demonstrate the level of academic skill necessary to successfully complete this programme. ii. To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must be physically able to carry out the practical components of the programme. iii. Prior to commencing the programme all candidates will be required to undertake a police check at a level sufficient for safe and effective practice within the field of horticulture. c. English Language Requirements Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or equivalent.
