About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have attained a broad understanding of the core concepts and practical skills in Information Technology (IT), with a technical support focus.
Graduates will have an awareness of the IT environment, can respond to the needs of users, and provide IT technical support. They will also be able to operate within the applicable professional standards and practice, as part of a team, or independently under broad supervision.
Businesses, organisations and communities will benefit by having IT Professionals with technical support skills that will be industry relevant. Graduates of this qualification will have the IT technical skills that will enable them to contribute to society, supporting digital proficiency and capability in a range of community and voluntary areas, and proceed to further study.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
A candidate for admission to this programme of study shall: (a) (i) have a minimum of 40 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above, including not less than 10 literacy credits and not less than 10 numeracy credits; or (ii) have successfully completed the requirements for the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4), or New Zealand Certificate in Computing (Level 4), or New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology (Level 5); or (iii) hold an equivalent overseas qualification; or (iv) be able to demonstrate via pre-enrolment assessment equivalent knowledge, skills and experience; and (b) have attained the age of 17 years; and (c) have an English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (Academic) (with no band less than 5.0) / TOEFL iBT 46 (with a writing score of 14) / PToE academic score of 42 with no band lower than 36 / NZCEL (General or Employment) (Level 4); AIS Test of English Proficiency (TEP) 48/80 (with no band less than 11, domestic students only); or (d) gain approval under Admission Regulation 3: Special Admission.
