Creating your account
Why won’t my account accept my email address when I try to register?
You may have already registered with that email address. Try to log in with your email and password to check.
I didn’t receive my activation email, what should I do?
Check the junk folder of your email inbox. To resend the activation email, click on the ‘Resend my activation email’ link on the log-in page.
Why do you ask for personal information when I register?
Your personal information helps us to provide you with the right career information and advice.
Is my account private?
Yes. We will not sell, rent or lease your personal information, or disclose it to anyone except in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 1993.
Signing in to your account
I’ve forgotten my password, what should I do?
Click on the ‘Forgot password?’ link on the log-in page. You will then get an email with instructions for changing your password.
I put my password in but I can't log in, what should I do?
Your password doesn't match your email address.
To keep your account secure, you're only allowed a certain number of password attempts before your account is locked for 15 minutes.
Your account locks again for 15 minutes if you try again during the time you're locked out. For example, when you try to log in after 10 minutes of already being locked out you'll have to wait another 15 minutes before you can unlock your account.
To be sure, always wait for 20 mins after your account locks before trying to log in again, even if you have reset your password.
To reset your password, click on the ‘Forgot password?’ link on the log-in page. You will then get an email with instructions for changing your password.
Why won’t my account accept my email and password when I log in?
You are entering an incorrect email or password, or you are not registered.
I have forgotten my password and I can’t get into my email – how do I get into my account?
Call our help desk on 0800 601 301 for help.

How do I change my email address, password or details?
You can change your details on your profile page.
Can I access my account on my smartphone?
Yes. You can access your account on your smartphone. However, some tools will be easier to use on a desktop computer or tablet.
I’ve created an account. How do I make my CV?
Use our CV Builder tool to create your CV.
Can I save my CV in my account?
The CV you make using CV Builder will automatically be saved within the tool.
I have finished my CV. What do I do now?
You can print, download or email your CV from CV Builder in Word and PDF formats.
I can't find the job adverts on this website. What do I do?
careers.govt.nz is not a recruitment website and does not advertise job vacancies. We do offer job hunting tips and information about jobs including pay, entry requirements and outlooks to help you with your job search.

Where can I favourite jobs?
You can favourite jobs in our job profiles or by using our tools.
Where do I find my favourite jobs?
Go to your account and click ‘View all favourites’. You can also email and download a list of your favourite jobs.
Deactivating your account
How do I deactivate my account?
You can deactivate your account from your profile.
Can I reactivate my account after I’ve cancelled it?
No. You will need to register again for a new account.
